Tagged

I have been tagged by technohorror, apparently this means that I need to write 20 random things about myself. Here Goes…
1. In case you don’t already know, I am technohorrors older brother. Technohorror got the looks and the brains, but I was born with an enhanced sense of irony as compensation.
2. I live in Melbourne, I city that I adopted as home almost twelve years ago. My first job in Melbourne was in Footscray, the setting for Romper Stomper, which had only been released a short time before my move to Melbourne. I saw no Neo Nazi Skinheads in Footscray, but enjoyed some beautiful Vietnamese food.
3. I am married with two children. I can’t remember what life was like before the sprog invasion. When the boys are away it seems very quiet, this is nice for a while, but I miss the insanity.
4. My interests are pretty broad which means that I can have a superficial conversation with most people. On the down side, I don’t really fit in completely anywhere.
5. Even though I live in Melbourne I am not a football nut (any code as I was born in Wagga so should have been poisoned with league by the water there) and get exceptionally irritated that other sports are bypassed in the press. I am especially irritated at the lack of cycling news, and most irritated by the almost total absence of women’s sport.
6. Accepting the lack of media coverage of mountain biking, I love the grass roots feel of MTB in Melbourne. The Deluxe Bicycle Club’s little track in South Melbourne, Full Gas Promotion’s Westgate Park single-track, and the Single Speed and Track Bike revolution are all examples of the get out there and do it attitude of people in the sport in Melbourne.
7. I hate the amount of space that Golf Courses occupy. Think of all the single-track that could be squeezed into the average golf course (without spoiling the greens). Given the sharp fall in Golf Club memberships, perhaps club boards could consider duel purpose facilities, with MTB access after dark for a nominal access fee per rider.
8. I try to get out on Monday nights to prowl Melbourne on my Single-speed with my camera and take photos of the streets and architecture.
9. In addition to architectural photography, I love photographing the body. I struggle to find models, owing to the fact that I am a pervy old man. As a result, much of the life photography on deviant art is self portraiture. If you live in Melbourne and are happy to model, please leave me a comment.
10. Halfway, almost. I am an Industrial Designer by trade, and I have worked converting heavy textiles into products for most of my working life. I have worked in both the private and public sector. I have found that people in both sectors believe that the grass is greener on the other side.
11. I am about to become a Godfather for the first time. I am unsure if I can be trusted to the spiritual up-bringing of technohorror’s daughter.
12. I should say something about Karen, my wife. We have been married for nearly ten years. Karen has been responsible for being a rudder for my ship, and also managed to complete a master’s, a doctorate and mother of two children in this time. It is amazing to live with someone who is so focused and capable.
13. Oh. I’ve just turned 36.
14. I live in a terrace house that was last renovated probably half a century ago.
15. Despite the fact that I don’t articulate it to them very well, I am indebted to my parents for enabling me to fulfil my potential as a person. Mum and Dad gave me the opportunity to follow my own path. I am probably a little bitter about my father telling me that I would make a poor soldier, but only because I know he was right.
16. Karen thinks I should point out that I don’t like eggplant, or zucchini, although she likes both.
17. I have just seen an ad for Malice of Forethought. Unlike the character in this program I don’t have a mistress.
18. I am 36.
19. I went to High School, College and University in Canberra and still have family and friends there. Unlike many people, I don’t find Canberra soulless, but feel that it is a town where you need to know people to get along.
20. I am going to ride the Commonwealth Game MTB course at Lysterfield tomorrow to see if there is any truth in the hype that the course is fantastic/crap.
